Celebrate You!

Summer 2004 Newsletter

You've spent plenty of time looking at all the things you haven't done or aren't doing. How about taking time to appreciate all that you have done and are doing? You accomplish important tasks and then poo-poo them, telling yourself they were no big deal. Today, take a moment to recognize and celebrate the miracle that is you.

Make a list of your positive attributes. Never mind the flaws you imagine. Focus for a moment on what's right with you. What you're proud of. What looks pretty good. We spend too much time criticizing ourselves and too little time recognizing how wonderful we are. Write down twenty things you love about yourself. Never mind the belly that seems to grow and grow, look at those killer legs. Never mind how you procrastinate, think about how patient you are.Stop focusing on what you hate, and pay attention to what you like. Then look in the mirror and say "I love you." Say it like you mean it.

Next, think about the things you do. Never mind any bad habits. Turn your attention to the kind gestures you extend to others. The warm thank you that you give the clerk at the store. The smile you offer a stranger. The time you let someone in front of you in line or on the freeway.Take a moment to recall the many little kind and loving things you do. Write down twenty nice things you have done lately. Then imagine the ripple effect as each act of kindness generate more kindness.

Now choose to pamper yourself in some way today. Enjoy a good book. Rearrange your furniture to suit you. Treat yourself to a really nice lunch. Buy yourself a little trinket you've had your eye on. Soak in a bubble bath. Get your hair done. No matter how large or small, do something to celebrate the wonderful person you are. Pretend it's your birthday, and look for ways to give yourself gifts. Be kind to yourself today. Think only good thoughts about yourself today. Let love flow to you and through you and out to all you meet as you celebrate life and celebrate you.
